Are You More Cat or Dog?>
I'm 50% Dog & 50% Cat! How about you? If you want to take the test it can be found at www.blogthings.com/areyoumorecatordogquiz/ (disclaimer: I'm not sure what else is on this website so be careful) This is a cute test I found on the Internet and being a "Dog" person primarily; I was a little disappointed that I came out 50/50. I was hoping to be 100% all dog! However, as I meditated on it awhile it became pretty clear that there is a lot of "cat" still in me. I began to think about the stereotype that dogs and cats have and then I compared them with a typical persons relationship with Jesus. I know this is bit of a stretch, but bear with me. Cats are typically very independent and finicky and they can take you or leave you. Dogs on the other hand are usually very committed to their master and are loyal and are accepting and they LIVE to bring pleasure to their owner. When I consider my general everyday attitude with my Master and savior Jesus Christ I am not always as loyal and accepting as I should be. He places things in front of me sometimes, and instead of being thankful and fully willing to accept whatever He gives; I tend to be a little "cat" like and check it out carefully, sniff it a little and then decide whether to accept it or not. If it happens to be something outside of my comfort zone or that isn't necessarily going to bring ME pleasure I sometimes turn up my nose and say "no thanks". It is a little disheartening that a family pet can be a much better friend, servant, and partner to an average family than I can be to the one and only, all powerful, yet ever-loving King of the universe! I think that sometimes we kid ourselves into thinking that we have rights! The fact is that the bible teaches that we are never independent...we are always going to be somebody's servant. v Scripture teaches that we are either the servant of Satan or the servant of God. There is nothing in between! If you are not serving God, then whether you believe it or not you are serving the devil. Many people get saved and falsely believe that God saved them from the devil so they are now set free. The truth is that we don't get set free from being the devil's slave we simply change owners. Christ bought us from the devil at the Cross of Calvary! We are no longer the slave of Satan but now we are the slave of Christ. The good news is not that we are set free to be our own masters, the good news is that you have a new Master whose "Yoke is easy, and whose burden is light!" Your old master was going to destroy your life with meaninglessness in this life and eternal suffering in the next; your new Master will make your life here meaningful and the next one better that human imagination can even contemplate! Many of us get stuck thinking that yes that may be true but I'm still a slave, and wouldn't life be even that much better is I was my own master? Well, that sound fine but consider the average dog. Do you think a dog is happier on his own, making his own decisions, searching for his own nourishment, fighting for his own safety, medicating his own wounds, avoiding all of the pitfalls and dangers associated with city living...like busy streets, other dogs, unfriendly people, dedicated dog catchers, etc. Or do you think a dog is happier in a nice safe yard with healthy boundaries, safe and healthy food that appears twice a day without effort, consistent contact with only friendly humans, etc. that is provided by a loving and dedicated master? the truth is that this world, and definitely the next world are not safe places to be in all by your self. True happiness will not be found by holding tightly to our rights, but by surrendering ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. If you agree...say Woof! If not, then meow... :-)
